After a total hysterectomy for Stage 1B, Grade 1 endometrial cancer, I was told I need no radiation. My surgeon said I just require follow ups every three months for two years. Friends of mine, however, said they had transvaginal radiation as a matter of course regardless of the stage or grade of their tumors.

Anyone know what I should do? I've made an appointment with a radiation oncologist but I figure that will just give me one doctor who says no and one who says yes...

What has been your experience?

Saleha, while I am not an expert on endometrial cancers, I do know that in general they do not use radiation on low grade cancers. The reason is that the amount of radiation the any specific organ can take is very limited. If you get radiation now and the cancer recurs, radiation may not be an option for you anymore.

In addition, radiation can cause other problems of a more immediate nature... like fibrosis.

Having said this, this is really something to talk about with your medical team.
