Hi

Last month, my mother was detected with Squamous Cell Carcinoma (Oral) in retromolar trigone, hard palate and buccal mucosa following which she got operated to remove the cancerous zones. The doctor suggested that, after the wound is healed, she would be given radiation. As we are waiting for the healing (3 weeks after the surgery), her rest of the mouth (tongue - going into the neck, right cheek, floor of the mouth) has turned white.

Could anybody suggest - what this whitening could be? If there was any spillage of the cancer cells, can it spread so fast (3 weeks)?

We can not visit the doctor before 3 more days, - We are very anxious. Any relevant comments would be appreciated.

Thank you.
DC

DC- sorry about your Mother and her Cancer.

Waiting is the hardest part, especially as these things happen and change so quickly.

Hopefuly DocSeiwert- will reply to you soon, with some information on this.

It could just be a healing "barrier in the mouth, a film like barrier" from the Operation. Like a exterior part would scab- this may, just be the inside healing.

Ring your medical if need be, to make sure.

dchak, I am sorry that there are so few people on the Head and Neck forum to reply to you. I do not have any information to help you. Keep working with your mother's medical team. Let us know what you find so that we can all learn from her experience.
