Hi, I am a 29 young woman and recently engaged. I was diagnosed with AA gr 3 in November. I had surgery removing 98% of the tumour. I am now in the "maitenance" part of my treatment, taking Temodal (here in Canada, same as Temodar) for 21 days on and 7 days off for 6 cycles. I'm just finishing my first cycle. I had 6.5 weeks of radiation (6000 rads) with 42 days straight on the temodal.
My question is this:
What are the chances that my hair will grow back?
Will I still be able to have children? ( I was told it could make the tumour come back)
Is there anything I can do to deter recurrence..any suggestions at all..this is my biggest fear ever. I never want to go through this again.
I have had no real symtoms from the chemo or the radiation, I have been working full time throughout this whole thing just taking off about 2 months to recover from surgery. Thanks for any info anyone can give me Very Happy

aprylpauline, I am very sorry about your cancer. Yes, you are too young for this. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My hair did fall out but it returned within 2 months of the end of my radiation. I assume that your's will too.

As for having children, you should probably wait until after all the chemo is out of your body. Talk about this with your own medical team.

Hello Aprylpauline

I am so very sorry to read your post & see that you are such a young woman! Oh to be 29 again!!
Your hair will grow back, I had chemo & although didn't lose all of it was devastated because my hair was my "crowning glory". It is so difficult for a Woman with the hair loss from chemo or any other treatments. Be assured that it will grow back & be restored to it's former beauty....in the meantime there are plenty of fashionable scarves, caps & even wigs to play with whilst you wait for your "crowning glory" to grow back!

For you to remain so well (otherwise) through radiation & chemo is fantastic & I hope your SPIRIT & WELLBEING will be yr strength & inspiration on this "cancer journey".

I agree with Brainman that you should consult yr medical team in regard to having children. They will advise & provide the answere you seek. In saying that I know there are women who have had successful pregnancies after cancer. I can't answer yr question about having children & the cancer returning? Again discuss this with yr medical team.

Having a positive outlook & looking forward will be beneficial to yr outcome. Surround yourself with positive, happy, joyful people & experiences. Don't take advice from FOOLS or people who are NEGATIVE! Spend plenty of quality time with people & friends you love.

Temodal is the GOLD STANDARD treatment for Brain Tumours & the current regime (maintenance) that you are on seems to be the standard treatment for most Brain Tumour patients.

Don't be a stranger here...we are a great community of people who can offer support, advice, information but most importantly comfort & love!

Cheers, Angie.
