doc- I have a question for you as well as for the others in the forum. I am turning 51 this year and have had annual PSA checks since age 49 purely for screening. There is no family history of prostate cancer . My dad did have BPH and had a TURP when he was in his 50s. My first PSA 2 years ago was 0.9. My second last year was 0.68 This week I had mine done and it came back 2.78 There is an extenuating circumstance as I did ejaculate 10 hours before the test. I am feeling very concerned about this and have an appointment with a urologist in a couple of days. What am I facing- worst case scenario and most likely case scenario.

in your case is to repeat psa with a free psa also.
countless times i have seen lab error as the cause for elevated psa.
after a repeat test, we can consider the next step.

your urologist will likely perform a digital rectal exam, but idealy, you have a repeat psa before he performs your exam, though there is little proof that dre causes mechanically induced false elevation of psa.
