Dr. checking me for cervical cancer.

Hi all,

I am new here and wanted to ask some questions. I went to the gyno Thursday and was telling him about some break through bleeding about a week before my period for the last 3 months. He didn't seem to concerned about it, so I told him that was fine I just thought it was worth mentioning since I am 48 and it could be pre-menopausal or something. So we went on to the pap and when he did the swab, I guess I started to bleed and he seemed a little concerned with that (have never done that before). With the pelvic my right ovary was very sensitive...just about came off of the table, left ovary was taken out a couple of years ago due to cysts. After all of they he said he wanted to test me for cervical cancer and tried to insert some type of tube into my cervix to "suck out some cells" but no such luck. He had the lab draw blood to check my tumor marker (CA 125) and said to come back in 2 weeks for an ultrasound and some other test...not sure what that is,can't read his scribble of abbreviations on my sheet to make it out.

My question is:

With the break through bleeding that he didn't seem too concerned about and the bleeding with the pap be enough for him to suspect cervical cancer or do you think he saw something on the cervix that made him come to that decision? I have never had a pap come back abnormal.

Could the sensitive ovary have anything to do with it?

What would the other test be other than the ultrasound? Not sure if he will try to get some cells out some other way.

I have been searching the internet but mostly talks about the biopsies, etc.

Any insite you all might have on this is greatly appreciated.

The blleding can mean lots of things. He may have seen something on the cervix or some redness etc. and wanted to do a punch biopsy- which is a tube like swap instrument- or there is one like a hole punch (sick i know) Wink

Try not to stress too much. Confused

i know.... The ultrasound, will pick up anything wrong with uturus or ovary. It's really a waiting thing.
