Hello everyone,

My 16 year old nephew was just diagnost five days ago with Leukemia, not sure of what kind yet. My sister and family live in NC and all the family are in Florida. They are at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville NC, it is two hours away from their home. Since we are not able to be their all the time to help them, what would be some things that would help them make their visits at the hospital a little easier, for my nephew and his parents? My sister has now quit her job and we want to help as much as we can. Any money saving tips?

Thank you

I'm so sorry to hear about your newphew and at such a young age. The great thing is at this age- they have amazing bounce and great chance of springing back to full health- lets hope this is the way...

Little things like cooking meals and puting them in her freezer, so they can heat themselves when home, staying with the newphew every chnace or day you are able to- to give the parents time to have to themselves to rest, relax (as if they can) and a little time away from the hospital.
occasional filling their car up with petrol. or a petrol card to help with petrol cost. I had a friend who even paid a restraunt to send food around to their family, so saves anyone cooking.

Since you are away- little fun music tapes or discs are fun- they can listen onto the way to the hospital, even a little letter on tape- some funny things that happened that day etc. or just you making some fun at them.

In the end- you just letting her know you are there for them all, a ear to talk into, a shoulder to cry on. That will mean the most.

Let us know how everything goes...
