Hi,

I am a newbie. My FIL (age 80) had this CBD stricture and was placed on stent for the past 3 years. We have been changing the stent every year. This March he got his third stent put. This time doc has found a tumor and has been diagnosed as pancreatic cancer. Biopsy and CT scan confirmed that. Liver metastasis is a query not confirmed by CT scan. He is a prior asthma patient. He had on and off back pain. Now the new symptom is, he is feeling weak, lost a lot of weight, loss of appetite, some back pain. Doctors did not suggest any chemo or surgery, only pain management. Now he is getting more breathlessness after eating. He takes inhalers for that. I am not able to differentiate whether the symptoms are because of this cancer or is it because of asthma? I am really very very confused. Any suggestions on what symptoms he will get, how long can he survive, when should I take him to the doctor will be appreciated. We are India and the doctors are not explaining in detail about the symptoms and other things. Thank you

vasantha, I am so sorry about your FIL's advanced Pancreatic Cancer. This cancer is one of the worse cancers because of all the symptoms it causes and because there is so few treatment options available. Normally, Pancreatic Cancer affects the digestive system causing symptoms like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite (and weight), etc. Since the Pancreas also produces Insulin, the patient can become diabetic with all those complications as well.

It is not easy to tell what is causing your FIL's breathing problems. That is not often associated with Pancreatic Cancer but no one on the Internet can tell you one way or the other for sure.

You and your FIL and family are in my thoughts and prayers.
