My pop has been diagnosed with AML Leukemia this past week. He is in a great hospital OHSU. He does not have insurance other than the BIA (Bureau of Idiots,uh, I mean Indian, Affair). We are a federally recognized tribe. My dad is over half Indian. Anyone have any info about this?

Thanks in advance

Hi Loresa,
I am very sorry about your father's AML. My father died just over 1 year ago of ALL (just another type of Leukemia). For the last year of his life, he was quite weak and needed my help a lot of the time. However, we did enjoy some good times during that year. I tried to do anything that I could to help him do things that he enjoyed doing.

I am not sure what you are referring to when you say "Anyone have any info about **this**?" What is the "this" you are asking about: AML or the BIA insurance?

If you are looking for general information about AML, here is a link to the National Cancer Institute's article on AML:

You and your father are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks Jim for the reply. I'm sorry to hear about your father. I'm new to this and didn't want to waste anyones time. I was curious about the BIA funding.

They now are thinking that dad still has AML, but is now m3 instead of m1, is that like a staging process? (Docs say they don't "stage" leukemia).
This is his 7th day of chemo drip, then he'll do oral until the next round.

I'm sure this site has a TON of information and it is not my intention to get information a post at a time. I tried to search around, but to be honest, I'm pretty computer dumb also. Is there an archive section to search? Thanks, and sorry I'm not real smart.

Yes there is a search function in the logo section of every page. You can define parameters for each search, specify the forum that you want to search in, etc. Every post is kept on the server rather than in an Archive section. It is not easy to find specific answers because so many members do not use clear subject titles. "Hi, I am new here" is not very helpful when you are doing a search for a specific issue Wink. "Tribal member with Leukemia" is so much better.

Good hunting.
