Hi pjean,

I just read all of your posts and am so sorry to hear about your husband's cancer. I am not as young as you but I was in the same age range when I was first diagnosed (38 at diagnosis). Mine was a lower grade brain cancer, but I do remember how devastating the news was for me and my family. It was like life can to an abrupt halt.... no more dreams, no more plans or hopes for a beautiful future. With time, I did realize that I had never been guaranteed a future. I only have today. You and your husband only have today. If tomorrow comes, that is just a bonus. Make the most of today. There is a need to cry, but you also need to make time for joy. Easier said than done, I know. I needed help from a counselor to cope.

I know that there are some long-term NSCLC survivors on this forum and hopefully they will reply to you.

You and your husband are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi pjean,

I'm so sorry to hear that another young person has been hit with this disease. Unfortunately the trend is becoming stronger for lung cancer diagnosis for young people. I know of other's who are in their late-twenties to early-thirties. It breaks my heart to know that such young lives are being affected. There is nothing fair about this at all. I now worry about my own children, as they are not kids anymore either.

I wish your husband much luck with his fight. My husband, who is much, much older, is at 2 1/2 years since diagnosis, so you can still have quality time together. It's not a fun journey, as you already know, and I'll pray for good results with the Tarceva for him. Is he receiving Zometa for bone strength to ward off other bone mets? A second opinion might not hurt if you have questions about how aggressively they are treating him. Many hugs being sent your way.

God bless,
PBJ

is Tarceva his only treatment?? my girlfriend (27 yrs old) was diagnosed w/ stage IV NSCLC w/ bone mets in March. After receiving 1st line treatment of cisplatinum, Taxol, and Tarceva her lungs are clear. Not sure what this means long term, but quality is good right now. She is back to work and having no ill effects except the rash from the Tarceva.

Best of luck - you are in my thoughts and prayers.
