Your brother's situation sounds close to what happened to my husband. He went to the doctor, his cells were low, they diagnosed him, they did a one week chemo treatment, sent him home, cancer still there, checked back in, started chemo again, and his lungs and heart crashed on the third day. He was in ICU for almost 8 weeks then went to heaven. Jim had APL which is an acute form of Leukemia that has a very good success rate for recovering if you get past the treatment. We had no time to do any research. One of the best books we found after the fact was:
Adult Leukemia: A Comprehensive Guide for Patients and Families
(Paperback)
ISBN: 0596500017
I will pray for your brother. _________________ Cindy Minich

Eunicei, my father died over a year ago of ALL. It is very hard to say what will happen with your brother without knowing specifically what kind of Leukemia he was. In general, the greatest danger is secondary infections or problems cause by too many or too few white blood cells.
It took my father's medical team over 18 months to finally diagnose his cancer. They did a bone marrow biopsy at the very beginning because of his low red blood cells but could not conclusively say that it was leukemia. He even had is spleen removed but that was not the problem. Finally, when his white blood cell count shy rocketed and a second biopsy, they diagnosed him with ALL. My father eventually died of pneumonia. _________________ Jim
