I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago at the age of 31. Grade 3, 2cm tumour with 1 lymph node involved. Went through surgery, chemo and rads, and now on tamoxifen and monthly zoladex injections. I have never had the balls to actually ask what my prognosis is, although I have read loads about it on the internet etc. I have now read several times that breast cancer in women under 35 has a much poorer outlook, this really frightens me. My son is only 3 yrs old, he had just turned 1 when I was diagnosed, so I feel like I am constantly "looking over my shoulder" waiting on it to rear its ugly head again.
I think I just want some reassurance really that there are women who were diagnosed under 35 that are still alive and doing well _________________ MAXIMISE |

| My mom was diagnosed at 31, now she's in her late fifties and doing fine. I'm trying to decide whether I'm ready for genetic testing. |

Hi Maximise, don't be discouraged by the statistics. Always remember that they are just that, statistics. As Heffalump pointed out, some will live into their 50's or older. Plus, you also have to look at the treatment available in the past. Tamoxifen is a much better chemotherapy agent than what was available before. Studies of long term survival rates of women on Tamoxifen have not even been concluded! Set some goals for yourself (like seeing you son graduate from High School) and live for that day!
As always, you are in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim

I think that we all "look over our shoulders" after we have been through breast cancer. As the previous post stated, with the Tamoxifen and all the other treatments available now things are in our favor.
The research is growing everyday. Don't give into it. Enjoy your child, and look forward to your future. |

thanks for taking time out to reply to me folks, I have been on holiday and thats why I havent responded sooner.
It reassures me when I hear about women who were diagnosed at a younger age and are still around many years later to tell the tale, I aim to be one of them !!!!!!
My son is 3 and I am looking forward to the milestones now, ie his first day at school etc, for so long after diagnosis, I couldnt even think about the future with my son except in a negative way.
Best wishes to everyone !! _________________ MAXIMISE |
