hi there, I'm new to the forum and just wanted to post about my dads situation.
He is 55yrs old and has always had medical problems...and he has always come thru them...until now.several months ago he started feeling ill.pain nausea, and vomitting.they sent him for a colonoscopy...all clear.
the pain just kkept getting worse and he has been unable to eat for the longest time.He maybe has one mouthfull of food a day.he has lost 30kg since this started.
Anyway his doctor eventually sent him off for an ultrasound that showed a large mass..so he then went to have a ct scan.It showed a 16cm mass encasing the pancreas, but not actually attatched to it.They gave a probable diagnosis of lymphoma.
He went to see an oncologist who referred him to a surgeon for biopsy. The surgeon said that a fine needle biopsy wasnt possible and that even laporoscopy may not be possible...apparently it is covered in major blood vessels so they need to be very careful. He went in yesterday and they DID end up opening him up to get the biospsy...
I'm reallly worried about him...I cant visit him in the hospital since I live in the country and the hospital is too far away..and I have called him twice since his op yesterday and he is in an incredible amount of pain which the morphine is not helping, but he just doesnt want to talk.when my mum called him he said that he doesnt want us calling the hospital anymore, so I just dont know what to do.I cant get in contact with his doctor to find out whats going on, how the surgery went etc, and the biopsy results wont be back for three days.I feel completely helpless and dont know what I should do.
sorry for the extremely long post, and if you read it all then I thankyou and welcome any responses

Hi emjaz - my husband has recently been diagnosed with a gastric lymphoma. His reaction at 1st was total denial, anger, "why me", etc. He did not want to deal with it - it's a stage most people go thru. Your dad will accept what is going on eventualy. My husband was totally unresponsive in the hospital to talking about anything. Once I got him home, started chemo, informed ourselves about this horrible & scary disease, then he returned to being himself & ready to fight. Your Dad will be ok - just be there for him when he's ready for it. Wish you well - Dee
