Hi ALOCIN,
As far as I know, Temodar is the gold standard for chemo treatment of GBM. However, I do not know how available it is in the UK.
I have read many of your posts so I want to express how sorry I am that you and your husband are dealing with this monster. My mother died because of GBM over eight years ago. I have also had two occurrences of gliomas… one in ’92 and a recurrence in ’05. I wish I could tell you that the rode ahead of you is an easy one. Be assured of my thoughts and prayers for both of you. _________________ Jim

Thankyou for your kind words. After reading about the use of temodar in this forum I feel upset that my husband was not given this treatment in the uk. We did try to get it but were unable to. It really upsets be to think that the best treatment is not used and is it down to money and not the patient's best interests. We were told that it can be used as a second line treatment in the uk. It is not licensed in the uk as for as I'm aware or does anyone know different? Was pcv chemo used in america before temodar?. Thankfully my husband is doing ok on pcv chemo but we will never know if he would have done better on temodar.
Have you read the online blog by Ivan Noble who worked for the bbc and sadly died of GBM last year aged 34yr .I know alot of emotions he wrote about, alot of people will relate to that log on to this site? |

I don't know what pcv is. When I took chemo in '92, the chemo of choice was CCNU. It might be the same thing. As you probably know, it is very difficult to treat brain cancers with chemotherapy. I wish you the best. _________________ Jim

| My husbands tumor is growing again from the last scan . we only got the results on friday . They said there was no point in giving him any more pcv chemo . He has to wait 2 weeks for them to decide what to do next. They did say they might try another type of chemo or ?? more surgery. So he might get temodar as it is used for 2nd line treatment in the uk. |

ALOCIN, how are you doing through all of this? I know that for me it was not easy seeing my mother grow weaker and weaker. But by the time her GBM was diagnosed there was nothing they could do for her. I will keep you and your father in my prayers and thoughts. _________________ Jim
