A day ago I had a hard time urinating and was informed that I haven't been drinking enough fluids. Anyways a nurse inserted a urine catheter into me and it felt very painful and uncomfortable that I just wanted to die. The tube was as large as our Dell keyboard cable. After he checked my bladder, he took the catheter out and told me that the first irination will burn, and when I did burned so bad and too felt painful.

how old are you? and what did the doctor say is wrong?

Five years ago i had prostate cancer & when they cured it they messed up my bladder so I couldn't pee. They had to put a catheter in me also. Finally, they left it in for 6 weeks before i could have surgery. But I went to work with it in every day. Usually we can do what we have to do.

I hope you are better.

I'm in my mid 20's and this incident happened a yr ago. It's because I was dehydrated and at the time I haven't been drinking enough fluids, only like 2 cups a day. I've been better since except it's no picnic wearing a urine catheters so I'm sure you know the deal. =(

It would be handy to hook up one at night though so you don't have to get up at 3am and stub your toe on the stupid door frame.
Or when you're sitting on a crowded 6 hour + flight.

well its easier with a condom catheter because with those you just slip them on instead of inserting like a urine catheter except the condom one is not all great either cause of the hard rubber cover. overall both aren't so great.

Hi,

Catheterisation is one of the most painful procedure we doctors perform. Use of a local anesthetic like lignocaine is therefore advised to reduce the discomfort.

How do you feel now. Also when dexcribing a symptom please give more details like age, sex and previous history so that we can contribute more.

Thanks.

My profile is there to explain. The recurrent cancer and or the BMT could may have caused problems with my bladder, and with my stomach not able to expand. Things are better now since.

I hate to imagine the feeling of a catheter being inserted. The common adult catheter is size of a pen and you bet that is uncomfortable. I have inserted over 500 catheters in my career but I have never had one in me... but I can tell they are really nasty to patients
