Hello,

I am a 47 yo male recently diagnosed with Stage III rectal cancer. My tumour is right at the sigmoid. In consultation with my surgeons I have elected for a resection. My CT (CAT) scan indicates one slighly enlarged lymph node. Post-op pathology will determine the extent of malignancy and metastasis. Here are some questions I have.

My surgeon tells me that I have a 70% chance of NOT needing a temporary colostomy. How real is this?

Based on studies of available data on the net, I am convinced that irradiation and chemo have little or no effect on long term survivability. Am I interpreting the data correctly?

I am, at this stage, resolved to forego radiation and chemo conjunctive, post-op treatments. I believe that doing so will impair my immune system and negatively impact my healing process. Any experience here?

I will substitute Intergrated Healing methods, such as, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Accupuncture, modified diet and other methods, as a replacement for radiation and chemo. Any experience here?

I am in very good shape and expect to be recovered and back to work within a month and a half. Is this realistic?

Is there anyone on this forum that has had cancer in the same place as me?

I am scheduled for surgery on Aug. 1 2006. Any suggestions or comments regarding pre and post op things I should be aware of?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer my questions.

Regards,
Iron Simek
