Hi I am new to the forum also, I was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer over two years ago now. I had stage IV. I had to have 5 other organs removed including half my pancrease, full stomach, adrenal gland, spleed and 30 cm of my colon. I never thought I would get through. But with the grace of god and my loving and patient husband and children I have survived.!!! I had no need for chemo or radiation. It was a long hard road with now my weight and absorbtion of food being my biggest problem. It will be a hard slow recover but dont dispare, no matter how hard ... keep going and be strong. Personally I found meditation very helpful for me .
I am due to have my first yearly CT Scan on June 13!!! I am of course a little apprehensive. I am just about back to my normal weight. I am not back at work yet and dont know that I ever will. Cancer is something I think about every day, so I try to absorbe myself in things I enjoy. my dog training and quilting.
I felt I should join this forum to let you know there are survivers out there. I dont know how or why I survived but I did. I often read that not many survive past 5 years. ?? Is this the common time frame do you think???

Hi SueT, it's been almost 12 months since my Whipples but this morning I woke up. Isn't that all that's supposed to happen? Worrying about how long we're going to live will be our undoing. I reckon I've had a second chance & I just live everyday for what it brings. My brother died from a heart attack aged 37 & I've still survived him by 20 years. Just a day at a time.

Hi SueT, I wouldn't say I'm back to my usual self. I did lose 25Kg in weight. I reckon that wasn't a bad thing because I'm now sitting on my BMI so my heart must be feeling good about the situation at least. I had 6 months of adjuvent chemo on Gemzar (gemcitobene) & was crook every day. Probably would have still been on it only I complained to my surgeon & he told the oncologist where to put his treatments - sideways, I hope. I've got two irritating stitches at the ends of the cut that are close to the surface. Feel like 5olb fishing line knots!!

Hi Sue T,I was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer 7 years ago on March 1999.Thanks to my unexpected pregnancy at the age of 41 with my miracle baby who is now 7 years old.He was resting on my gall bladder on the last month of the pregnancy that made the bladder go bad,It was during those tests before they removed my gall bladder that they detacted a small pin size spot on my pancrease. It was at an early stage, half my prancrease was remove and i went thru 6 months of chemo and radiation and then ct scans every 6 month then every 3 months now my doctor tells me i no longer need the ct scans since its been more then 5 years.I know cancer is something you have on your mind always and every time you have any kind of pain no matter how minor you always think your cancer is back but im here to tell you that there is hope and miracles and to never give up.
