I have a question about CAT scan results. I had one this past Tuesday to see if I have lymphoma. I have an appoinment scheduled this upcoming Wednesday to talk to the doctor about the results. If something showed up, would they call me or just wait until my scheduled appointment? I have the appointment specifically to go over the results, but I was wondering if no call means it is normal. As you can see, waiting is taking its toll. My husband will be gone for the next few days, and so here I sit going over it all in my head. Im not feeling down anymore though, at least I am on the path to get some answers. Anyway, just wondering if you guys had any ideas. Thanks.

Hi Cleaves,

I suspect they will wait until they see you to give you your results, though of course I could be wrong. I initially got my results almost immediately because I was in ER, but all subsequent readings were sent to my Oncologist.

Option - they are your medical records and if you were to show up at the medical records office and ask for a copy of the report I think they would have to give it to you, but you could be stuck with a bunch of high faluting words and phrases such as non-remarkable, yet I suspect you could follow along in general. Caution - I often find my doctor interprets my readings different that I do.

Everything looked good on my scan! The only odd thing was a prominent thymus, which is strange because adults arent really supposed to have one. I dont really know what that means, but the thoracic surgeon should be able to expain it tomorrow. They are pretty sure that the lump is not a lymph node, and I should know more about it tomorrow. But, right now everything looks good! -Chelsea

So I talked to the thoracic surgeon this morning about my CT scan. He said that the lymph nodes in my chest look good. The lump under my collarbone is probably a prominence of my rib or cartilage, but it isn’t a lymph node. The only strange this is that I have a soft tissue mass of some kind in my anterior mediastinum, behind my breastbone, which they think is an enlarged thymus. A biopsy of that area is invasive so he wants to do a PET scan, and if that area lights up then he will go and biopsy it. Apparently lymphoma can make the thymus swell, or my symptoms could be from a disorder with my thymus, or the mass could be something else entirely. They just want to make sure that there isn’t any cancer there. So I have to get an appointment with my other doctor who should be able to schedule that scan. They don’t think that it is lymphoma but they want to be sure. Even though they don’t know for sure, they said lymphoma would probably be obvious after a CT scan had been done. So I feel more relaxed now. I just have to get it done now, and then we should know.

Hi ceaves,

I know it's doubtful that you're still monitoring this site after 1 1/2 years from your post, but I thought I'd try. What ever happened about your lump and your thymus? The reason I ask is that my daughter has a lump on her chest just below her clavicle. She has had a CT scan and an x-ray that were clear. She has mono and so everyone thinks the lump is just an enlarged lymph node, but this is not a common place for enlargement due to mono, and from what I understand, if it was an enlarged node, it would have shown up on the CT scan. We are supposed to wait a month and see if it goes away as the mono does, which I guess is reasonable since it would be a big coincidence to have an enlarged lymph and mono and them not be related. It just seems a little strange to me, especially since they tell me she has a mild case of mono (basically asymptomatic except for some fatigue when exercising) and I think the lump was there a few weeks before she was diagnosed with mono. Anyway, I'm just interested in anything to do with lumps in the chest and so I thought I'd see what your outcome was. Thanks.
