Hello to all.....

I live in Canada, I'm wondering about "timing" being critical to maintaining, diagnosing and treating cancer. In Canada, for the last several years our Health Care System has been failing rapidly. In Essex County, we have one of the highest rates of cancer in the country.
Under normal conditions, people with even severe injuries or illness wait an average of 8 hours in the emergency room, before being treated.
On an average, in order to see a specialist, like a gynecologist, it takes about 3 to 5 months for an initial appointment. We have a doctor shortage and our hospitals are in a major crisis.

Can anyone, from any country or region tell me how their system works, and how long it takes to see a doctor? :?:

p.s. I truly believe, if people were attended to in a timely manner, millions of lives would be saved.

Sincere thanks....Jaypee

I'm in Northwestern Ontario and it's the same here. There's not enough GP's in this city so a lot of people don't even have a doctor and have to go to emergency for any kind of treatment. That means sitting in the waiting room for, as you said, 6 - 8 hours. Consequently, they don't go, which is probably what the government is counting on. It's one way to reduce medicare costs - if you don't care about lives, which they don't apparently.

Mark....thanks very much for replying so quickly.

You are so right. Our government has destroyed the system. It used to be one of the best in the world. When did they stop caring about us?
I just don't get it...don't any of our government officials or their loved ones get cancer? Oh ...wait a minute..that's right...I almost forgot...they rarely have to wait hours in emerg. or months to see a doctor...

Now that we're paying an outrageous percentage of health tax annually, you'd think our system would be on the mend. Just not happening is it?

I wish you the very best Mark, I've read your posts. You have a remarkable sense of humour/wit....that in itself will keep you strong. 8)

I live in Windsor, Ontario and we used to have a excellent system. Nowcme then you will get frustrated and won't mind paying alittle extra to see a doc faster. You can see that we will have a 2 tiered system.

Then I always thought that if you get sick and live in Canada you are okay. You get sick and they pay to for your treatments. I guess I am naive.

I am a bone marrow donor of a young teen who developed GVHD and the doctors tried everything and nothing seem to work. They recommend Photopheresis treatments. The only problem is won't don't have that in Ontario. There is only 2 machines in Canada and Calgary is the place that takes them. They turned his funding down for treatments until we yell and screamed thru the media.
Now he is in Calgary getting treatments with tremendous results. They have lowered his pain killer medicine at bandage change time. His body was 90%
covered with sores and they are starting to clear up. He can now extend his arm.

He is still not all done the treatments. If you ever know of someone that needs a bone marrow transplant and they develope GVHD after then tell them about photopheresis treatments and they will probably get turned down at first but hold news conferences and do alot of emailing.

Right now we found out that there is a machine in Toronto that is collecting dust. It was donated to the hospital 5 years ago and they never done nothing with it. I am pushing for them to get the machine going because there is lots of people that need it.

If you can please go to the website that I created to fax or email a letter to the MPP. It is
