We were told the 1st of July that my husband has NSCLC stage III. We have been Self-employed for many years and we do not have health insurance for medicine or treatment. I am at a complete loss. I need suggetions on how we can continue to pay for this. I have found a couple of labs that furnish medicine for free if your salary allows it and ours does but there must be others and there must be help for people like us. My husband is 61 so medicare is not available until 65. He has applied for SSI as he can't work now but we are told he won't be able to get insurance for two years. He may die in two years. Can anyone help me find funding for this? Also, if or when the last stages come I am told hospice is wonderful to help, but doesn't that also take insurance or payment. We do not live on Welfare, but we just make it with house payments, etc. My husband has worked so hard all of his life to support me and my children, and now 3 grandchildren that live with us. He deserves the best treatment I can get for him. Thank you

There are different options you can explore, depending on what is available in your area. The place you would probably get the most information would be from the Social Services department of your local hospital. I would also try to contact the American Lung Association or possibly apply for Medicaid. A lot of people who think they would not be eligible for Medicaid are. Hospice IS wonderful but they only come in when you are terminal. I would try Social Services first. Hope this helps.

contact your local hospital (even ask your doctor for advice) and ask to fill out an application for medical assistance.
There is help out there...it's just not freely advertised
Nobody should be denied medical help because of lack of finances.
