Hello,

does tumor size is imprtant for survival rate?

My dad has approximately 5 cm in diameter tumor round solid edged. It is located besides trachea.

Is it big tumor?

He will have CT next week, but we are very afraid. Is there posiibility that this is benign tumor? are there any other possibilites that are not cancer?

Is this goos that tumor is solid edged?

If it is cancer, in what stage it probably can be, according to it`s size?

Please answer at least to any question you can.

Thanks.

Ervins

Hi,
It would be difficult to stage the cancer based solely on diameter of the tumor. The stages relate more to how far the cancer has spread away from the original tumor. A larger tumor may indicate that the cancer has been present for a longer period and thus could be more prone to spreading but tumors grow at different rates, so that isn't even a good indication. My mom had a tumor that was about 8cm in diameter but unfortunately it had spread to her bones and lymph nodes and she was diagnosed as stage IV.
I'm not sure what the significance is of "solid edged". It is possible that it could be any one of a number of things including benign. I'm sure that they will want to do more testing. I think the location is not good from a treatment perspective. I'm guessing that the close proximity to the trachea will make treatment difficult. Surgical removal may not be possible and radiation may not be possible either. I'm not a doctor but those would be my guesses. Sorry to not be of much help. Good luck!

Hi Erviins

My mum is in the same position now. Her tumour is 5.5cm x 2.5 (i think) and her's is also close to the trachea. Her GP has told her surgery is not an option because of the location. We are currently waiting for the 2nd biopsy results which should hopefully be here inthe next few days.

He also told her that it was still contained within the chest wall.

Let me know how you get on and good luck.

Thinkin of you!!
