My father was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma 4 weeks ago at the age of 55. The doctors told us we found out too late and there was nothing more to do, except keep him comfortable and do whatever he wanted to.
Its been a week he's been home on hospice. Yesterday the nurse took him off his tpn(total parenteral nutrition) because he has not had a bowel movement in 2 weeks. Therefore whatever goes in he will vomit back out.
Taking him off the tpn is the right thing to do but very hard to watch as a family member, everyday he gets weaker and skinnier plus the fact that he has not eaten anthing for about 3 weeks.
According to the nurse he has about a month left give or take, i am slowly watching him die. This is one of the worst ways to experience an on coming death of a family member.
We have tried fleet enema and ducolax suppository for his bowel. None have worked, if we can at least get his bowel movements he can be a lot more comfortable and will be able to eat and have some strength to enjoy his last days instead of laying in bed all day.If you are aware of this cancer or have good knowledge of bowels please take the time to respond and give my loving father a chance to enjoy his last days with my family. The only problem is the cancer may have grown around his bowel tube an may have pinched it shut, in that case there is nothing we can do. Anything will help even your prayers, thank you
