My name is Richard. I was diagnosed with follicular NHL about 9 months ago. One of the things I have tried to research is the developing science related to prognosis and genetic markers. This concerns me as I seem to have a fast moving version of what is supposed to be a slow growing cancer. From what I have read, survivability can be predicted by these markers and there are four ranges of survival length (3, 7, 10+ and 20+ years) based on the markers.

Does anyone have any feedback on this subject. I would like to find out where I can have this test as I would really like to know my prospects for the future. I am a 58 yo male with two teenage daughters and a wonderful wife so i want to do the best job possible of planning my future for them. The disease has already progressed through two rounds of radiation and I have a bunch of new lumps in my left armpit and mild to moderate pain in my abdomen which was the original radiation site.

Thank you for any input and I will try to return your kindness as time goes on...thanks again.

Thank you, ChemoMan, I found the 2008 presentation particularly informative. The presenter mentions the genetic markers and their relevance to survivability and goes on to say that she thinks they will become a standard part of treatment planning as time goes on.

I have another scan scheduled on the 20th this month so those results should give me a good idea of whether I am on the right side of the fence, or not.

Thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it.
