I've read on this site examples of normal X-rays picking up small lung nodules and CT scans picking up small neck nodules. Anyhow, this is adding to my concern on whether or not I should go elsewhere for my PET scan.

I'm 34 years old and unfortunately a smoker for too many years. I've been ill with random symptoms for 2 months now. A few weeks ago I complained to my doc that my neck was now swelling. She felt the sides of my neck and quickly blew it off saying it was muscles and asked if I had been pulling weeds or working out. I reiterated I wasn't doing much of anything because I've been so ill. Earlier this week I went back and now that my neck looks like a hamster that swallowed 2 golf balls she finally ordered some imaging studies. I had a chest X-ray, ultrasound of my neck and a CT of my chest and neck. All read by the same radiologist, the X-ray report was normal, the ultrasound showed multiple nodules on my thyroid ranging in size from 4mm to 7mm and the CT didn't show the nodules in my neck but showed a 6mm nodule in my lung and a 1.3cm cavity in my other lung. Cancer is prevelant in my family with a sister having breast cancer at 35 (Supposed normal mammogram in November and full-blown breast cancer by March.) and relatives with thyroid cancer, among other types.

I tried calling the radiologist to inquire why the CT didn't show the neck nodules but the ultrasound did but they wouldn't put me through. I'm not as concerned that the X-ray didn't show the lung nodule because that's more common I think at only 6mm but the CT scan not showing the neck nodules really concerns me. Since it's obviously important to have accurate results I'm wondering if I should go elsewhere to have the PET scan. I live in Southington OH and these studies were performed at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

Any advice or insight would be much appreciated.
