I have been suffering with pelvic pain on the left side of my abdomen for over three months. Also nausea, loss of appetite, weight loss. Was referred to colonoscopy first, because I felt better when my bowel was empty, and we wanted to check for obstruction. They removed a pre-cancerous polyp and I have to go back in six months for a recheck. The pain had increased, though, and I went back to my regular physician to follow-up.

I was referred to a gynecologist, and they did an ultrasound before I even talked to the gynecologist. When she came in she told me my endometrial stripe was too thick at 1.5 cm. She did an endometrial biopsy and scheduled me to come back December 1 for results. She decided it would be easiest to schedule for after Thanksgiving.

What are the chances this is endometrial cancer? I asked her about the possibility of endometriosis and she refused to discuss anything but the abnormally thick stripe and getting a biopsy. She insisted a biopsy had to be performed and the results back before she would do any further treatment or even a PAP smear.

Hi wuzzittoya;

I think your doctor is proceeding wisely by having a biopsy performed. Endometriosis as opposed to cancer can also thicken the endometrial lining. In my case, a pap smear did not reveal cancer, and my OBGYN did NOT perform a biopsy. Sounds like you are in good hands, and I know its hard not to, but its best not to speculate the worse. Let us know how it turns out, and you are in my prayers today.

Rhonda
