I am currently writing for my mom. I am trying to find her a supportive website/chat room. She is currently depressed and scared. Is there anyone out there who has or who has known someone who has had small cell cancer?

I always have trouble saying “Welcome to the Forum” because the reason anyone joins us is usually not good… cancer is never good. I am so sorry that your mother has cancer.

Your mother is lucky to have you as part of her support group. This forum can be another source for support. As you can tell, the site is divided into forums… each dealing with a different aspect of cancer. This forum is a more general, supportive forum. She is welcome to post comments here. There are also forums for specific cancers. Small Cell Carcinomas would be classified… I think… as a lung cancer. She can post her more specific cancer related questions there.

But you need to know that most members here are hurting and weak themselves. There are not many of us that respond. We do have two doctors as members (one is the founder/owner of the forums). However, the rest of us can only speak from our own personal experiences. We always encourage our members to consult with their own physicians.

If you are ok with these limitations, this is the place for you and your mother.

My mom was just recently diagnosed also w/sclc - extended stage. She has gone from being independent w/job about 6 weeks ago, to now a frail, weak, skeleton of a woman that can only lie in bed. She cannot even turn herself over and her bed sores are so bad it is unbelieveable. Our doctor suggested we put her through chemo treatments which would ease her symptoms and hopefully make her strong enough to go home. She has been in a hospital and nursing home for 4.5 weeks now. She went downhill so fast it was unbelieveable. I am her only child, my brother died six months ago and that just did her in. Now she has this. She is only 73. I am alone trying to get through this and help her. The first chemo treatment nearly killed her. Her immune system is now compromised, she has ulcers from her tongue down to her stomach, she got bronchitis a few days ago and cannot speak any more - too weak to talk. She cannot even walk to the bathroom with help anymore. It is just killing me. They have to hold off for her next cycle of chemo and change the prescription. I don't know if she wants to go through this. She does not know her prognosis. We did not tell her because she was already so depressed about her son dying that she may give up if she knows she will probably only live 9 months or so w/chemo. It is consuming my life. I am also trying to take care of her home, bills, insurance, etc. as well as manage my life/job/family. I understand what you are going thru. Would love to have someone to correspond with to talk about this. Send me your email if you are interested? Could use a friend who understands. Best wishes to you and your mother. My prayers are with you.
