Hi I am a 31 year old male and had rutine blood work done and my total protein serum level came back at a 9.1. Also my uric acid came back at 8.3. My question is are these levels hi enought to be concerned with. I am waiting on the resalts on the protein serum E ? test. Also my wbc ,rbc, and platlet count is all normal. The thing that worrys me the most is the poss. bone pain I may be having, the pain is off and on not consent and is minor pain.that pain has been there for years and my blood work was fine all other times. Is this the pain poeple are discribing?and would my other levels be elevated also?

If you are 31 years old, and have had these intermittent bone pains for years, you almost certainly do not have myeloma; if you had, it would probably be a world record - myeloma is almost exclusively a disease of middle and old age.

I hope by now you have some answers Smile I am a new user to this site and I must admit the reason I have joined is because a friend of mine, who is 30 years has been dagnosed with multiple myeloma after 3 years of neck pain. It is in her neck in 2 spots and 1 spot in her brain.

I feel that respondands should take care when stating general assumpions, eg that 31 is too young for this cancer!

Hi, I'm new to the forum...and wholeheartedly advise posters to exercise restraint. If cancer has taught me anything, it's that there are a lot of different cases that require different treatments that will yield different results in different people. Generalizations are dangerous.

28 at diagnosis, now 31, white girl from suburbia with no exposure to petroleum engineering or other environmental factors

If you are still worried about the bone pain, I would consult http://www.multiplemyeloma.org/ or other medical sites for more information on symptoms and staging to see if you fit. My understanding is that if you had myeloma, your RBC and whites would be decreased. Other tests that will give you more definitive news are a bone marrow biopsy, bone density/skeletal survey, and 24-hour urine collection, and to add beta-2 microglobulin to the blood work if they are not already testing it.

In the end, best to discuss with your doctor. If they seem over their heads, try to find another option locally. And if that is still not yielding enough info, do a 2nd opinion. There are several cancer centers that have a lot of clinical experience with myeloma.
