Hello. I noticed a small hard lump about the size of a pea just to the right of the nipple of my right breast during an exam today. I am also experiencing a tingling sensation in my breast.

Does anyone have any feedback on what else to look for or what the tingling may be?

Hi Patti,

Something like 80% of breast lumps are benign. Having said that, any lump you find should be investigated. Your first step should be to go to your PCP for an exam, then, depending on your age, for a mammogram or ultrasound. I am a firm believer in biopsies. Mammo's & US are diagnostic tools and they are good, but the only way to know for sure is to have a biopsy. There are a number of different types, most are easliy done and not terribly painful. Good luck and let us know how things turn out.

Cheers,
Bree

Thank you for responding so quickly. I am a little wierded out by this. I've always taken such good care of myself. I'm in training in a different city for my job for the next 4 weeks so I'm trying to brainstorm how to see my PCP. I will try to locate a doctor here while I'm in training. I guess this concerns me since I'm 43.

Again, thank you. Have a beautiful day Bree!

Hi Patti,
I totally agree with everything that Bree said. I was 43 when I was dx with Stage III, Invasive Lobular BC. Of course, this doesn't mean that you will get a dx like mine and yours could very well be B9, but never let anyone tell you that you're '" too young".
The only thing I can add to Bree's post is I'm President of the Whimp Club .... lol The incisional biopsy was the 1st surgery since I was 3 years old and I can honestly say that there was really no pain to speak of. The incision site was sore, but other then that I was really surprised how easy it was. The only good lump is one in a jar.
Definately go see a doctor and get a biopsy. If that one says no, wait and see, find another one. Waiting isn't going to do you any good, regardless of how the biopsy turns out. IF, and chances are good, it's B9, take a deep breath and celebrate, IF it's breast cancer, get a jump on it and go kick some cancer butt.
Hugs and prayers

Patti, I'll add another vote to those of Bree and Nancy for a biopsy. Any lump needs to be taken seriously, and the best way to find out is an excisional biopsy. It is not a difficult procedure and you will be back on your feet the same day. Like Bree said, 80 percent, or fiour of every five, breast lumps are NOT cancer. So the odds are on you side. Good luck. Please keep us posted, caring people are here for you. Hugs, Lauri (8 yrs 7 months)
