Hi. I'm really hoping somebody on this board can help.
My mom has stage four pancreatic cancer, and has been going to Sloan Kettering in NYC for treatment with their expermintal clinical trial using Gemzar and either Avastin or a placebo. I don't know if she's getting the placebo or the Avastin, but nonetheless, I don't see any progress. Is there any other place she could try to get treatment that would offer her another option that she might respond to?
Thank you.
Bruce

Bruce, I am so sorry that your mother is not improving. If she is on an experimental protocol it is because the doctors do not believe that the standard treatment will be helpful.

As to Sloan Kettering, it is one of the best oncology centers in the world! They are very likely to have approval to participate in any experimental protocol that is currently underway. If you don’t think she is getting better, talk to her doctors, tell them of your concerns. I hope they can find a way to help your mother.

Something else to remember is that the longer a person is on chemotherapy, the worse they seem to become. I was hospitalized multiple times when I was taking chemotherapy. But after it ends, that is when you would expect to see improvement.

I am sorry that I do not have better news.

I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts.
