| my father has had liver cancer for 6 months now, and does not qualify for a transplant because the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. (metastatic primary liver cancer)... he had hepatitis c and took pegalated interferon. during the 11th month of the trial his liver shut down, he was told he had cancer and the hepatitis left him with serious cirrosis. now the doctors have told us to search for clinical trials as there are no more know answers. (he has already undergone liver ablation and chemoembolization and his liver function is not incredibly poor) but my question is, IS THERE ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE IN THE SAME CONDITION? and if so, are they undergoing any kind of successful treatment?? it's no good randomly guessing at clinical trials. also, the doctors keep giving us terrible predictions like he has only a few weeks to live (that was a few weeks ago). can anyone help? |

Alison
Thanks for sharing your father's story with us. Unfortunately there are no good treatment options for end-stage liver disease other than a transplant. One can live with it for some time, but the complications are so common, and so many organs are affected by the poor liver function, that there are no drugs in the market that really help.
You can try www.clinicaltrials.gov, and see if there are any open trials that could enroll your father. One thing to take into consideration is that the chances of getting a beneficial treatment are small.
yours sincerely

Hello,
My mom was diagnosed with advanced liver cancer 3 1/2 years ago. She has been participating in a clinical trial in San Antonio,TX at CTRC. Try and research them. She was initially given only 6 months to live and it's been 3 1/2 years now. They have several trials for liver cancer |

| This message is for Alison4 My father is 56 and his story is almost identical to your father's. My has advanced liver cancer with underlying cirrohis and hep b. He has had no treatment because the doctor's say that there is nothing they could do for him. The only thing he has been taking is a drug called Iressa which is fairly new and has been keeping him stable. We live in nyc so we have taken him everywhere sloan, columbia, mt sinai and all of the have given us zero hope. How is your dad doing? Please e-mail me if you want so we can chat. kcerini@hotmail.com |

would you happen to know the name of the drug or trial that your father is on? |

Cindyindallas,
Hope you see this and let us know what exactly was the clinical trial your mum was on. Anything that can help prolong survival by 3 years is worth looking into.
Thanks.
