Dear Group:

I'm new to this subject and have some concerns.

During early December 2005, I started producing blood in my semen, and it has progressively gotten redder over the past few weeks. About the same time, I noticed the following has developed:

- My bowels have consistently felt fuller
- I've needed more that one visit to at least partially empty my bowels (I can't seem to get the old empty feeling again right now, even after 3 visits)
- My stools are narrower than what I'm used to
- My stools have firmed up somewhat, but are not hard
- No blood present in my stools or urine
- I don't seem to have the energy to do the physical work I used to do all the time around the house and grove (this has developed over the past 6 months or so), but I'm not exhausted

I plan to call my GP tomorrow morning to get a referral to a urologist to get an exam ASAP.

My question is: Due to its proximity to the rectum, could an enlarged prostate cause the noted problems by narrowing the inner diameter of the rectum?

I'm hoping that perhaps this is merely a coincidence.

TIA,

Hello

An enlarged prostate would be unlikely to cause this, although not impossible. I would advise you to get checked very soon. I would be more concerned about something in the colon/rectum area.

best regards,
Dr. Leo

Dr. Leo:

Thanks for the reply. Your concerns reflect mine, although for some reason I was hoping for an enlarged prostate (more localized cause I guess). I have made an appointment with my GP this Wednesday to be checked out. I'll give the group an update as I get pertinent information.

Very best regards,
