Question While undergoing tests for abdominal pain I had an ultrasound examination. This ultrasound resulted in the discovery of a hypoectopic(?) lesion in the right lobe of my liver measuring approx 2CM. A follow up CT confirmed the lesion. I have no signs or history of cirrhosis, hepatitis, or liver injury. My blood work showed no abnormalities I had melonaoma surgery several decades ago and there appers to be no metastasis from that. My abdominal pain appears to be unrelated to the lesion. As is common; the lesion was found during diagnostic testing for another health issue.

My Doctor suggests, based on my medical history, that I repeat the CT scan in two months to see if there is a change and to establish a baseline. I remain concerned and I'm requesting information from others who may have experienced this. Is this lesion something I should seek an immediate opinon on from a specialist? Is a baseline the prudent thing to consider? thanks

Hello

It is common to observe a lesion that is indeterminate for a period of time and be able to see what happens to it. If your doctor was suspicious enough he/she would have requested a biopsy. A liver biopsy is a safe and frequent procedure, but it does have risks and that's why we don't take it lightly.

best regards,
Dr Leo F
