Hi All,
My mom was recently diagnosed with stage IV NSCLC with mets to bones (upper left arm) and lymph system. She has undergone radiation treatments for her arm and lung which have lessened the pain in those areas. She has been able to slow down her intake of Tylenol 3's and avoid moving up to heavier pain relievers. She sleeps about 14 hours a day including 12 hours at night. Her biggest complaint right now is that her back is sore. I'm not sure if that is a result of too much sleep on an older mattress or because of relative inactivity on her part. Could it also be a sign that the cancer has spread even further? She has refused to take chemo as she feels that it won't buy her much more time and she doesn't want to extend her life with the pain she is having. She doesn't want to move up to the higher pain medication as she would have to give up driving and her independence. What to do? Any ideas on the cause of the pain? Thanks.
