| [color=indigo]I'm in remission but I had cervical cancer. My treatments were Chemo, Radiation, and 2 radium implants. I've had complications because of the Radium Implant. I used a dialator for awhile until the pain became unbarable. I went to the hospital and the pain was caused from the scar tissue. So I was then put on some powerful pain medication that ACTUALLY WORKED(Oxycontin 20mg). After 2 or so years I'm back in pain once again. I know it's source---the scar tissue is on a nerve therefore UNBARABLE PAIN. I've asked my doc what could we do about this and he told me there was just one more thing that could be done but it was VERY DANGEROUS. The solution is cutting the nerve. He told me that he wasn't sure any doc would touch me considering I'm 36 yrs old and my history with cancer AND I'd have to wear a bag or diapers because that nerve controls the bladder and the bowel. I'm SOOOO FRUSTRATED and SOOOOO UPSET!! I feel helpless because noone has given me any other alternatives PLUS I want to get off the pain medication. When the pill wears off I feel HORRIBLE! I don't know what to do PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can ANYONE help me or even direct me to someone who can give me answers??? THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to read my topic!![/color] |

Hello
I feel sorry for what you've been going through. While medications can help, sometimes the only way is really to cut the nerves. Another more recent strategy has been a spinal cord stimulator, that is a device that can control pain in people that have no better options. While this may not be offered by the physicians in your case, I think it might be worth to ask about.

Hi. I recently heard about a nationwide study opening for patients in pain related to or associated with cancer. To participate, you must be between the ages of 18 and 80, experience an average of 1-4 flares of pain per day. These flares of pain are commonly called breakthrough pain. You also need to be taking daily opioid medication to control your regular/persistent pain. Some examples of opioid medications are below:
? Morphine
? Transdermal Fentanyl
? Hydrocodone
? Oxycodone
? Hydromorphone

Now, I am taking Heceptin 1time per week until I reach 12 treatments. Then, my oncologists will give me 1 hercptin every 3 weeks. Why would my rib cage hurt. I am taking a diuretic because of excess fluid retention. KathyMR. |
