In an earlier post, you said: "I'm going to meet with an Oncologist in NJ Monday morning, and will ask him how he feels about herbs. "
How did this work out? |

| My Dad decided to cancel the doctor in NJ, and stick with his Oncologist in NY for another 2 treatments, which he has one more next month. If the CAT scan shows the same he will then try the new doctor. |

|

Hi,
My mom was just diagnosed with cancer and right now im trying to find out every possible way to help her to live a longer life as much as possible. She was diagnosed with a stage 4 NSCLC. The doctor tells us that it has spreaded to her spine, lower back, and rib. He is trying to start her off with Tarceva and if thet works he says, my mother can live for a few years, if not chemo would be the 2nd option and he estimates she can prolong her life by 1 1/2 years. I found this site while searching through this forum for help and have come accross a few certain herbs and vitamins "http://www.publix.com/wellness/notes/Display.do?id=Concern&childId=Cancer_Lung#Herb-Options". I want to start her off drinking ginseng and green tea off the bat. I hear Melatonin is good start also to help her, but how much should i give her per day? What kind should i buy? Im in need of all your help. I try to check this forum out and figure out new news but i try to spend most of my time with her with all the time she has left. If you have any advice please help.
Thankyou,
Tony Yeung |

Tony,
Sorry to hear about your Mother. I hope she is doing well.
The outlook even according to the package insert in the Tarceva box is not measured in years. It is more like weeks.
The one year survival rate for Stage IV NSCLC is quite low. Most of the people that I have read about who beat the odds, did so by using alternative treatments. Some clinics in this country use these treatments to some degree. These include MD Anderson (in trials) and Cancer Treatment Centers of America. There is a clinic in Mississippi that uses some of these and new types of immunotherapy. In Europe and Japan they are considered mainstream.
Melatonin dosage in the studies I have read on PubMed are very high in the 10MG-20MG range. Some say this is a potentially dangerous dose while others say it is no problem. Some reccomend to check with your doctor, but the problem is that many doctors don't endorse this treatment since it is not conventional. Do not mix melatonin with Procardia (nephedepine) or any steriod like prednisone or dexamethisone.
The use of PSK is very popular in Japan and appears to be more effective than many other treatments.
You may want to check out Dr. Sun's Soup although it is quite expensive.
You can check out melatonin, PSK, and Dr. Sun's Soup on the PubMed site as well as others. The reason that I recommend the PubMed site is that it is the main repository used by the medical profession, and thus has a measure of credibility.
Hope this helps. |

For those who are using Melatonin and PSK, where are you buying them from? There are alot of places on the net that sell them and i do not want to get caught in the wrong hands.
Thanks,
Tony |

Tony,
I found a place in Oregon that is supposed to have the purest PSK.
I also found one place on the web that has 10MG Melatonin.
I'll try to find links to these for you.

Here are sources for 10MG melatonin and PSK:
http://www.jhsnp.com/store/vpscoriolusversicolor.html
http://lifeextensionvitamins.com/melatonin.html
I have not done business with either of these, but both appear to be reputable.
If you have not done so, you should check out both of these substances on PubMed to satisfy yourself that they are what you are looking for. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?DB=pubmed PubMed is the main medical respository in the US and is used by most doctors and clinics as a medical reference. It is also where the results of trials and studies are published. You can find a number of these concerning melatonin and PSK.
I lost my Wife to Stage IV NSCLC, and was not aware of these alternatives at the time. The standard treatments (chemo and radiation) offer no hope of recovery. Even the main instrument of conventional treatment guidelines will tell you this. www.nccn.org Just follow the links and you will arrive at a chart for any stage of any type of cancer.
Best wishes for you and your Mother.
