My PSA is doubling every 3-4 months. I'm exercising and doing the best I can with several post-RPP issues, but wonder if anyone has good dietary advice.

Try pomegranite extract as it is proven to delay PSA after surgery. I would also see a prostate oncologist as the best time to undergo any salvage therapy is before psa hits .5 You have to determne if the reoccurrance is local or systemic, an oncologist specializing in PC is your best bet to do this.

Also lycopene is supposed to be helpful--if you don't like tomatoes, you can get capsules.

Gary, nothing wrong with trying to slow it down with exercise and diet, but it's not going to cure the cancer. It's like trying to put the genie back in the bottle. Like JohnT said, the clock is ticking towards an important PSA score, 0.5. If you haven't looked into salvage radiation, now is the time. Don't waste the last opportunity for a cure.
Best wishes.

Rep - I was on the verge of radiation earlier this year - got to the point of the final dry run when my PSA dropped to 0.04. Since then its been climbing again. I expect to eventually have to bite the bullet and go for it, but if anything can delay that day I'm all for it.

Approaching 18 month post-surgery mark [tomorrow] and this is a day of mixed feelings. On the one hand I've made it this far. On the other hand I obviously don't yet have a 'cure'. My saving grace is that I place my trust in the Lord and His wishes for me.

Thank you Rep.

I love tomatos. Are the capsules more potent than the natural state?

I would research that, Gary, b/c I don't know. I'd suspect that the capsules have more lycopene in them, but then again, good fresh clean food is probably going to have other good stuff in it too.

Look, lycopene is great. I eat tomatoes for breakfast almost daily and have tomato pasta sauce most nights each week.
However much of the focus on lycopene as some extraordinary benefit regarding prostate cancer was called into question after the initial crowning of it as some miracle food.

Here is a 2007 article discussing some of that reconsideration.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/05/070517063011.htm

Now, there probably are many other articles and studies since then.
I would welcome anyone posting other more current links to later updated information.

So, I'd eat tomatoes and pasta sauce on a regular basis, but I'd really have to question going the extra step of buying some concentrated capsules.
Often times concentrations in capsules fail to deliver the entire natural range of beneficial substances in the particular "whole" food.

Eating lots of colorful fruits and vegetables should give you the whole range of ingredients nature has to offer.

Some studies indicate cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, kale, collards, cabbage and cauliflower contain a variety of powerful anti-cancer phytochemicals. I'd think those are as important or more important than lycopene containing foods.

You might also want to look at the study that Dr. Dean Ornish conducted regarding prostate cancer and diet.

No magic cures in any of this, but some suggesting there may be some influence on the course of events from dietary alterations.
The bottom line is that most of the changes suggested will add to your overall health regardless of whether they influence the prostate cancer.
Remembering that most men with prostate cancer die of some other cause.

Thanks Otago. I already do a fair amount of vegetables but have been considering going vegetarian. Not sure how the animal protein lack will work, but substituting beans, cheese, etc should do the trick. I wonder if animal fat is important or destructive?
