Hello,

I hope the people on here who have been diagnosed are doing OK. My younger brother was diagnosed with a bone cancer and is still dealing with it. I find it scary how one day his life was absolutely normal and the next he was diagnosed with cancer. Though, he's absolutely used it to better his life. After being put in his position and thinking through all the what-ifs, I think he clearly lives every day to its fullest potential.

I had one of my tonsils swell about 3 years ago. No other symptoms. I went to an ENT and got a CT scan which he said was normal. After a few visits over a year he told me that sometimes the tonsils just screw up and there is no apparent reason. The tonsil shrunk to about half the size it was but has never returned to normal size.

I wonder about it from time to time and thought I'd ask a few questions on this forum to see if I could get some answers from experienced folks. I'm wondering if it was a cancer in my tonsil would it shrink the way it did or does cancer always present with a constantly growing tonsil? If it was a cancer would I be seeing other symptoms by now, almost 3 years after I noticed the enlarged tonsil?

Thank you, I appreciate your help.

Hi xxlilguyxx. I know that your brother's cancer must be a big worry to you and make you very alert about your own health. This is a good thing. You do need to alert. However, realistically, the odds of it being a cancer that shrinks with out any treatment is remote to say the least. You do need to continue to work with your own medical team to try to find the cause and solution to your tonsil problem.

Good luck.

Sometimes tonsils do not go back to their normal size after infections, so keep an eye on it, but don't be too worried. 3 years is a long period of time and I'm sure if it was something serious you would have noticed other symptoms too.
