We just found out last Thursday my husband has lymphoma, though we do not know which kind just yet. I am 27 and he is 26.

We're both really scared, both for the obvious reasons but also because we're not sure how to handle certain things. Just a week ago, we were setting a closing date on the house we've been building and we were talking about when we want to have kids. Then last Thursday, he went to get an antibiotic for a cold and they felt a lymph node in his neck. Within 48 hours, he had an xray and a CT scan and a second opinion with a surgeon. Tomorrow they are taking the one out for the biopsy and they will let us know which kind we are dealing with.

I guess I just have lots of questions. I'm picturing us going broke paying for treatments even though we have great federal insurance. We have no idea what to do with the house we're supposed to close on (we've built from the ground up). We don't know about banking sperm. I don't know if he will be able to work or if I can be strong enough to see him sick. I could really use words of wisdom.

I am sorry for your hausband diagnostic. I think this is not the time for your and your hausband to care about the house( the house is a serious thing, but his health is more serious).
don't worry about the sperm thing yet, before chemo, there is no problem yet. try to stay calm , as possible as you could, even if it is very very difficult, don't panic.
Wish you the best, god bless you.

I know it's hard but lymphoma at his age has a very high success rate for remission and outright cure.

Until you have a more detailed diagnosis just wait and know that lymphoma is very treatable.

Get on with your house, as NOT doing it will likely be more stressful but forget about any heavy duty renos etc..just get in and get comfy.

Doc will advise you on kids - sperm bank is a fine idea anyway.

My sympathies on the finance end - YOU need to find out in detail what is covered - I'd keep your husband out of that series of conversations.
It's not something any Canadian like me has to confront...we just get the treatment we need.

First week is hard but don't let your worries drag his spirits down. Normalcy is very important at this point until you know more and stay upbeat on it.

Once we know more we can perhaps help out.

Encourage him to start a diary and be careful early on how widespread you let his condition be known as it can be a negative factor..so go very slow just now with the outside world but rant all you want here..... Wink

and have fun - a positive outlook is critical....get that new house rolling and settled....IMNSHO the best possible thing you could focus on right now.

Get settled so when chemo comes around he has a nice spot to be miserable for while and then cancer free a few months down the road.
