Testing for the activity of certain genes could be used to predict how breast cancer patients will respond to chemotherapy treatment. In a study published today in <i>Journal of Translational Medicine</i>, researchers sampled primary tumour tissue from eighty-three breast cancer patients, and found fifty-seven 'predictor genes' that could be used to predict patients' response to preoperative systemic chemotherapy in all cases of partial remission, and nearly three quarters of cases of complete remission.
