My sister Kim Hiltz is 32 years old and battling breast cancer.

Despite surgery, chemo, radiation, hormone treatment and drug therapy over the past four years, Kim?s cancer is aggressive and treatment options are limited. She could continue chemotherapy, but with questionable effectiveness over a short-term outlook.

Kim?s biggest chance for long-term remission comes from a treatment option not available in Canada: High-dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell transplantation available at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, with a price tag of $225,000 Cdn, plus travel and living expenses (it?s a three month treatment program) ? about $250,000 all in. If successful, this treatment could put Kim in remission for up to 5 years or more.

In August Kim and her husband will travel to Houston to begin treatment. They are actively fundraising and have formed a non-profit group, called Kim?s Hope (www.kimshope.com), to raise awareness and centralize fundraising efforts

High Dose Chemo a.k.a. Bone Marrow transpnat w/ stem cell recovery is the best solution. I spent 23 days in UCSF hospital for treatment and it was the toughest treatment that I ever faced. However, it is the best treatment that will kill the cancer. Your sister Kim will face a rough time but the treatment will be worth it. Good Luck and never give up!
