Hello, I'm a 23-year-old female and I am going for a FNA biopsy tomorrow to check out an enlarged lymph node in my left armpit and I am terrified!

I noticed this lymph node about 10 days ago as it is about one inch wide by one and a half inches long (pretty noticeable)! I also had a sore throat and had been feeling extremely fatigued so I figured it was a virus but to be sure my doctor prescribed me an anti-biotic. The sore throat went away somewhat and my neck lymph nodes seemed to be okay but I had new symptoms pop up: I have a different joint pain every day - one day my neck, the next my wrist, then both wrists, today my finger, etc...I also discovered small rashes behind my knee and on my back, which come and go throughout the day and only itch when I scratch them.

The lymph node has not gone down and my doctor seemed pretty concerned so she ordered the blood tests (mono, lymes disease, etc.) for the same day she ordered the biopsy.

The reason I'm writing though is to ask if my doctor is just being aggressive in diagnosing me before trying a "wait it out" period or if this truly sounds like lymphoma. I do not have night sweats, nor do I have a fever and I have not lost weight either, rather gained a few pounds. The symptoms have only shown for about two weeks - would I have had symptoms for a while if it's advanced?

I'm just being paranoid and thinking the worst of course but if anyone can help I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

Hi lillxo

No you are not being paranoid and what you are going through is scary. Dont fret too much as your doctor seems to be on the ball and even if you do get a diagnosis of Lymphoma it is easily treated these days with excellent results. Chances are its an infection it nearly always is, so try and relax and take your mind off this by doing something to occupy yourself and try and stay away from internet websites dealing with cancer at this point.

I hope your results are negative and remember we are always here if you need us. Good Luck
