Hi,
My favorite aunt has lymph nodes cancer, she battled and succeeded 3 times and now it seems she will not make it... The cancer went to her spinal cord and now apparently to her brain. SHe is depressed and does not want to take medicine anymore, she will take pain medicine though but at one time she wanted to stop eating. How long does she have left? Please we are desperate, she will not tell her the timeline the doctor told her, we are living in hell... |

Hi Laura. I am so sorry about your aunt's cancer. It is very hard to see someone you love in such a but shape. I do have mixed feelings about your aunt's decision.
I strongly think that the decision is her's to make. My mother, in her late 70's made the same decision when she was first diagnosed with a primary brain cancer. I totally agreed with her decision and still believe she made the right decision for herself.
On the other hand, my mother had many other health concerns that made practically any form of treatment almost a death sentence in the first place. In addition, she was not depressed and never became depressed. I hate to hear that your aunt is making the decision while she is depressed about her condition. Depression can be clouding her ability to make a wise decision at this time but there is no way for me to evaluate this over the internet. If possible, bring this issue to your aunt's medical team for there evaluation.
You and your mother are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi,
Thank you fr you thoughts.. I guess she just gave up on life and she can't stand the pain of looking into everyone's eyes and reading the fear and the broken hearts... She just wants it all over with. We will try to see how it goes...She is now at 76 pounds ... |

Yes, at some point everyone need to let go. It sounds like your aunt is ready but that the rest of you are still in shock that she is going down hill so quickly. Both are perfectly normal expressions of anticipatory grief. Every one who has a normal emotional system goes through this when someone significant to them as dying. Hang in there.
