Concered i might have cancer?

hello, iam 17 years old.. i have been smoking for a year and over the last couple of days whenever i smoke my throat KILLS, my throat is inflamed and my tonsils are white enlarged and look really ugly, its kinda like a shotting pain its really hard to describe but its it the back of my mouth i dont know how to describe it.. it might be a strept throat pr w.e but i dont know and i dont want to get checked out because i dont want my parents knowing i smoke.. Sad

either i die of cancer or die from them killing me knowing i smoke.. ive talked to all my friends and theyve said to quit but its too hard to quit just like that.. iam really concered as i feel shortened of breath at times, my mouth is constantly dry and it does hurt at tiems to swallow..i used to smoke light smokes but since my throat has been hurting over the last couple of days i switched to extra light.. i smoke roughly a pack every 4 days.. do you think 1 year of smoking a pack every 4 days could give me throat cancer or do you think it is just strept throat or another throat condition not cancer related.. i need help because iam VERY paranoid over it, im depressed and thinking negatlivly about it..please help Crying or Very sad

I would think the chances of you having cancer are slim to nil so go to the doctor.

While you're there talk to him/her about help to quit smoking too. Trust me on this, the sooner you quit, the easier it is. Every day you smoke increases your dependancy and makes it that much harder - so do it now.

(You could have tonsillitis too.)

you know what, thanx for the advice it really worked... i went to the doctors and i found out i had tonsilitis and now im on pills and stuff.. i am trying to quit smokign as i HATE doing it.. and i dont think im gunna smoke till my throat heals as it hurts to smoke... thanx for the advice.. it helped

well you got saved this time and thankfully it was not diagnised as cancer but better leave this habit once and for all
otherwise the consequesces can be disatrous

I have a twin sister that became a heavy smoker during her lifetime.
She passed away6-11-05 and I am sure that smoking did cause some if not all of her problems. If you are only 17 stop now. It could for sure save your life one of these days. I also had tonsilities as a child and finally had them removed when I was a senior in H.S and had lost hearing in my right ear. I now have out of 3 hearing bones in the right ear 1. Totally deaf in right ear. This could also have been caused from smoking.
Talk to your parents and tell them your concerns about quiting. They can purchase patches which really help with the nicotine addiction. The other things in cigarettes are just bad chemicals anyhow. Good Luck and take care of yourself.

remember if you dont stop now.....it will be 100 times harder once you reach your 20-30s to stop. if you stop now at least you havent been smoking that long for your withdrawls to kill you as much.
