Hi, i have just been diagnosed with small cell cervical cancer 2 days ago. I'm 26 and just got married on May 30th, we have a little boy who is 3 and has Autism.
I'v been reading up on it, and have found it hard to get information as this type of cancer is rare. I am going for scans in the next week, to find out more, see how big the tumor is and if its anywhere else. The docotr who broke the news to me did say its an agressive form of cancer. And told me i could be looking at a radical hystorectomy, radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
I'm finding it hard to take it all in at the moment and would love to talk to someone who has the same type and can give me some information and advice.
Thanks, Ally |

Ally, I'm sorry that you've had to come to this Forum, but glad you have. So you can get the support and advice as you need it.
What was the stage/grade of the cervix? what symptoms did you have? what test did you have done?- have they done anything more than a pap smear?
Sorry, but this will make it a little clearer for us. _________________ Thinking of you Inica

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I don't yet know the stage or grade.
At the start of May i'd started with spotting between my periods and had a discharge with a funny smell, and had pains in the area. I thought it was an infection caused by the coil, so i had decided to get it removed but i was due to get married at the end of may and didn't want to have my coil removed then have a really bad period, so i got given antibiotics and said i'd go back in after the wedding to get it removed. The antibiotics took away the smell but nothing else and about a week after i finished them the smell returned.
After the wedding i went to get my coil removed and a tumor was found on my cervix. The tumor was bleeding quite a lot. So i was refered for a colposcopy, where i saw a growth on the screen that was white and spongy looking. They took a biopsy from it.
I got the biopsy results the last wednesday, which i was told is small cell cervical cancer. Its a rare type, and is normally found in the lung. Apparently only 3% of diagnosed cervical cancers are this type. And it is supposed to be an aggressive type, that can spread quickly.
I am currently waiting for appoinments to come through for the mri scans and whatever else it is they do ( i can't remember all what the doctor said to me as my head was in pieces at this point) Which is to find out the size of the tumor and see if its spread anywhere else.
I was told with this type of cancer its common to end up having all 3 treatments, hystorectomy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Ally, It sounds like you are in good hands. They are quick at getting it looked into and looking at treatment which is great. Though I know, very scary for yourself.
How is your husband taking all of this? How are you feeling? I think in your case it is a very good idea to follow what they say and do all the treatments. It can be very aggressive, and like all cancer, but I think more so for ours.- it is important to get very clear margins. This pictular area can spread into many many areas, and quickly.
Keep onto the Dr about an appointment for those further tests.
Keep us updated, or i am here for a personal message if you wish. _________________ Thinking of you Inica

Hi there.
I had the same type of cancer. It was small glassy cell aka adenosquamous carcinoma. And they told me the same thing that it was super rare and aggressive. Luckily for me, we only did a radical hysterectomy. (although it was a like week after I found out i had cancer that i had the surgery) but so far i did not have to have chemo or radiation. they did tell me that was a possibility but my lymph nodes were clear so yay!
you can PM me if you want to talk more about this cancer and i can tell you more about what I;ve learned from it. _________________ Stage 1B1 Adenosquamous Carcinoma of the Cervix.
