I just received a phone call telling me that my grandmother has just been diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian cancer. I was told she just had surgery and "had everything removed" and would be starting chemo soon.

I honestly don't know all too much about it or ovarian cancer in general. But, I know that 3c definitely isn't good...

What information can you give me about this? Is it likely she'll be alright? Is there anything I can do to help?

Zel, I am very sorry about your grandmother's cancer. I do not know a lot about ovarian cancer so I am afraid I cannot help much. I think it really depends on how she deals with the upcoming chemotherapy. If she copes well with the chemo, she should be OK.

Your grandmother is in my thoughts and prayers.

I am sorry to hear about your grandmother having been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Now ovarian cancer is always the hardest cancer in patients because it is so hard to detect and when it is detected it is usually at a later stage, causing metastasis. What you should try and not worry about is that if the cancer is still in a centralized location, it is very treatable with chemotherapy and also with the support of family. You are going to see many changes in your grandmother, major changes in her life, appearance, etc but don't let that give up the faith. She will do great as long as all of the family puts in their share of love. Ovarian cancer is hard, but not the end. You should also find out what type it is if its a germ cell tumor or a cystic tumor. And also demand for doctors to perform biopsies on surrounding organs to make sure the cells have not spread. Sometimes there needs to be two or three biopsies to ensure that the cancer has or hasn't spread and always get a second opinion. Keep track also of the medicine that she will be receiving (especially the type of chemo, keep a diary if you can). Well hope this helps and God bless.
