Hi,
I am 27 years old male. One and a half month ago I had shingles. And as a result I got lump in my armpit. After a couple of weeks the rash from shingles vanished but the lump stayed the same size or slightly increase. Moreover, one week ago I got a second lump in my neck, even bigger than the one in the armpit. Both lumps seems to be moving if I touch them. The one in the armpit is painless but in the neck it slighlty annoys me. My dermatologist, the one I went for shingles, reassures me but I am very worry from these two lumps. I do not have any other symptom like fever, night sweats and etc and I exercise a lot even these days. Should I got worry and get a second opinion? Do i have reasons to worry?
Thanks

Hi

You have little reason to worry at this stage. Most likely this is due to the shingles. Make your GP aware of this and keep an eye on it...its called watchful waiting and is what most doctors would do...but do make your doctor aware of your concerns. Good luck

we are here if you need us at any stage

Just find an another one in the other side of my neck, inside. Can this be cancer? There seem to be moving but there not soft. There asr relativelly small around 1-1.5 cm. And I am feeling a bit discomfort in the place of my neck where the newones is. The same story for the other but now Its painless and do not feel a thing. Does anyone have any idea?????????? I am really worry and cause I am in a bussiness trip I will not return back for 3 weeks to see a doctor. Besides that everything else is fine, nofever or even tiredness even I sleep to little. Can this be sideffect of shingles? I did not got any medicine during this infection even when I had low fever. Please reply I you have any idea

hello again

I can't give you any hard and fast answers as I am not a doctor and even a doctor could diagnose you over the net. I can say that all who have posted here in your position have never come back , but all that says is that lymphoma is rarely a cause of raised nodes. Its usually caused by infection and as you recently had shingles this is most likely the cause. Of course there is always a chance it is lymphoma.

We recently had someone with lumpy nodes and a recent case of shingles you can read the story here:

http://cancerforums.net/viewtopic.php?t=12245

They never came back so we could assume it was benign.

On the other hand you are still worrying about this so you might want to see your doctor when you get back and arrange for a biopsy. As I mentioned before the usual thing to do when you first present is to watch and wait so there is no need for you to freak out so badly. The 3 weeks will not set you back even if it is lymphoma so please try and relax. Also do yourself a big favor and stay away from medical sites on the net during this time.

Good luck and enjoy your life you will be OK no matter what Smile

Finally I found some primary health care here. It had only nurses. It seems that the lump in my throat is not in a lymph node and that my fever is low and between the normal range. Still worry though and waiting to see a doctor for a better opinion.

Go and get them checked straight away, and if your GP brushes you aside stand firm.
I was so lucky mine in the neck was Grade I, and my GP was great despite thinking it was a Cyst and putting me on anti-biotics first of all. When I went back 4 days later saying I was very concerned as the lump was still growing, he sent me straight to hospital and within 3 days I was starting treatment.
I saw some people with Grade 3 and Grade 4, and they hard a harder time than I think I did, and mine was bad enough ! Early prevention is one of the major factors from my experience.

Hi

If it is bothering you take it to a Doctor. Dont panic there is no need. The only way to diagnose NHL is with a biopsy so what the nurse said doesnt mean much. Its up to you on how you proceed.

Good luck Smile

Hi,
Thanks for your replies. Yes there is no way that I will leave it like this and the first thing in 8 days that I will be home is a blood test and a visit to a pathologist. I quess that he will give me antibiotics and if they do not work or it grows I will ask to be removed and have a biopsy.
I have one question. The place that I have the lump in my neck, according to some info I found in the internet seems to be in the saloid gland and not a lymph node as it is exatcly near the upper part of my throat. Same as the nurses said. My question is if lymphoma or leukemia gives you lumps in places other than the lymph nodes?

Hi

Yes it does....its called extranodal lymphoma. Its is not likely in the area you mentioned but not impossible.

Good luck with it I hope it is nothing serious

I never had any confirmed involvement in my lymph nodes. My lymphoma was a tumor in my colon, that was confused for a colon cancer for several weeks.

Hope you get some good news soon!

Hi,

Finally I visited a doctor. She told me I should not worry for the one which is getting smaller in the armpit as it is from shingles. The one in the neck she tolb me that may be a small lymph node although it is in an unsual place and she was not actually sure! She told me that they do not even check for lymph nodes in this place ( just a cm from the upper part of my larynx) and she would not notice it if I did not told her. She told me that my neck inside was red it is probably an infection and I should see her again in one week if it is still there! She did not prescribe anything! I will go for a blood test in any case

Hi

Good news Smile You can take your cues from the doctor and relax about this now. The blood test should pick up an infection if you have one, but is of no use in detecting lymphoma, but I don't think you need to worry about that anymore.

Good luck and wishing many more trips around the Sun for you Smile

Hi,
I got finally home last night and today first thing in the morning I went to a good pathologist I know. But still the same thing. He also told me that my lump in the neck is in an unusal place as it is not exatcly where they are. He also told me that is small (alhough I think its around 1.5cm). He was worry if the shingles and the lump/red throat was a sign that my immune system does not work so I did a blood test where everything come back in the normal ranges+ that I have no infection. I told him if it is lymph node and I need a biopsy and he replied that is too small for a needle and they not do not take nodes from the neck without other signs becuase is a bit risky.
So still no diagnosis and have to wait until Monday to see a neck specialist.
I also think that my lump has slightly becam bigger something that might be because I check it every minute.
In any case I am glad that I can afford a private insurance and have all the exams and the doctors pretty fast. I am getting sad reading all the people in the forum waiting in anxiety for months to see a doctor. Hope this change some day.
