The research I have done on prostate cancer is confusing.Firstly, I have just been diagnosed with an irregular prostate and am scheduled for an ultrasound. My Psa has always been low and I have been in the care of a urologist for the past few years for a different matter and he has told me that my prostate was ok, until this year when my gp did it for the first time.
Info I have found suggests that most men over 50 ( I am 64) have some form of prostate cancer and if diagnosed at my age is not a concern as old age will likely kill me before prostate cancer if i do have it.Other sources suggest that it is a very slow moving form of cancer and that further procedures may not be necessary.Yet on this forum everyone either has had or will have surgery.
Which is correct?
Thanks,
David.

David:

There is no clear cut answer. Many men want to watch and wait, many choose surgery, and many choose radiation. Only a urologist can determine if your age, Gleason score, and general health dictate which procedure, if any, you should have. I know men in their 70's that did nothing. It is different shades of gray, with no exact answer for everyone.

Thank you for your response.
Wharever happens I will certainly know a lot more about the prostate when this is all over.
