Does anyone know how accurate the thyroglobulin serum test? I can't seem to find anything on-line about it.

Thank you,
Maryann

Maryann, did you have a total thyroidectomy? If so, the thyroglobulin level should the zero since only the thyroid produces it. I also cannot find listed any test limits. The one technical source that I did find said that it should be "undetectable".

Thank you for replying. Yes I had my thyroid removed last April and last June I had a RAI treatment. The thyroglobulin serum tests come back <20, but the doctor just had me do a RAI scans again. So I was wondering if he thinks the blood test is not accurate? I have done some research but can't find anything on accuracy or how often the scans are done.

Thanks
Maryann

Oh, you mean how often the test gives a false positive? I will look for that information but I have not seen anything about false positives either.

Brainman thanks for the info. I just got my thyrogen scan results - the doctor said i'm "cancer free"! He also said I shouldn't have to have the scans again for about 5 years if all the blood test are good. I'm not sure it has sunk in yet. I'm very thankful for the great news and this forum.
