Hi, i'm new to the forum and need some advice from anyone out there.
I'm a 26 year old female with lump on my neck for approx 6 months.- lump is painess and moveable. Since March, a new ump on the other side of my neck has surfaced, has have lumps in my groin and underarms.
Docs say that they woud expect the lump to be bigger and the lymphocytes count to be higher and have sort of sent me on my way but have also had the following symptoms:
Excessive, daily Fatigue- I feel very weak and cannot do more than a few hours 'general living' without needing a sleep
Itchy legs
Diarrohea- constant since xmas
Pain when eating and drinking on occasion, not all the time
Abdominal pain, pain in my hips and ovarian areas
Anyone?............... _________________ Vick Uren |

Hi Vicki, and welcome!
The only way to diagnose lymphoma is through a biopsy. If you are still worried about this possibility despite your doctor's explanation (or lack of explanation, as it seems like they didn't definitively tell you what is causing your ailments), ask your doctors for a biopsy. If they won't do one, find a doctor that will.
Good luck! And good luck to Eric as well, the biopsy itself is no big deal. _________________ Age 37 (36 at diagnosis)

Hi Eric,
Read about your concerns and the comforting words some of the members have posted.
Unlike you, I did not have the time to worry whether I have cancer or not. I was already in the critical care unit of a Hospital. I was diagnosed with a Stage IV Lymphoma in two weeks of getting admitted.
In about six months time, I have completed six cycles of chemotherapy and two PET scans. The last PET scan on the 24th has confirmed my remission.
I have mentioned about my illness to indicate that even a person diagnosed with a Stage IV can recover.
You might just be worrying about nothing. So I would suggest that remain positive and wait for the biopsy results.
We are all here to support you and share our experiences. _________________ Age : 44

So I saw an Oncologist or whatever today..they DIDN'T do a biopsy, but she felt them and said she herself doesn't think it's anything..number one apparently they are soft, and mobile(I THOUGHT they were pretty firm feeling and not mobile, but apparently I have no idea what hard means in medical terms) they are all on the normal size(large albeit normal)...I got the standard blood work done though, 8 vials of blood, HIV, TB,HEP ABC, Glandular fever, mono(I'm not too worried about the HIV or HEP...these were here before I sexually active or doing anything crazy) I also have piercings and she mentioned that sometimes lymphnodes will become enlarged after piercings, just for no reason other then being enlarge(again I sort of noticed them before my first piercing..so..weird.) I have a CT scan in 6-8 weeks..(oh god) and....waiting for these blood tests. Also, she said the doctor may preform a fine needle biopsy(I told her my concern about false-negatives and she told me that only happens if the doctor doesn't do it right, apparently, but also said if I'm not satisfied a full excisional biopsy may be preformed for piece of mind.) So...that's where I'm at now..what do you think about that?
I hope all will be ok, I'm feeling a little more positive knowing they aren't too large and that they aren't fixed or mobile or hard, like I previously though(good thing I'm not a doctor eh? )
Feeling a bit more positive from the reassurance, she must see TONS of lymphoma patients(I've read her ratings online and she seems to have dealt with alot of lymphoma patients) so I feel I trust her quite well in what she has to say..She gave me a sly smile and told me everything is normal as far as she can tell, and I smile back and said thanks and she was like.."That's what they pay me the big bucks for!" Overall she seemed to settle me quite well..I just hope the tests come back all good.
I will be persuing this further, I'm not satisfied yet...but tell me your thoughts so far(try not to scare me TOO MUCH:P)
You are all in my hearts, and you are all wonderful angels to be posting here and helping everyone out, you are such strong people and I admire your strength and hope I can have the same strength if worse comes to worse.

Hi princepia
Good news hey I think you can relax now
For your information Lymph nodes can be felt normally, especially in the neck and under the armpits. Normally they are the size of jellybeans so they need to be bigger than this to cause any concern.
Try and relax and enjoy your life. Keep vigilant by all means as you are the custodian of your own body and take any concerns you have to your Doctor. Look after yourself and enjoy many trips around the sun _________________ Age 53

Seems like today is an amazing day, all my bloodwork came back PERFECTO, CT scan shows no need for a biopsy whatsoever, my doctor offered another CT scan in 6 months(I've had these since I was like 15, with no change(I'm 21 now) so I think I'm good to go!!
CT SCAN RESULTS:
Multiple axial images were obtained from the nasopharynx to the aortic arch. No neck mass identified. There are a few subcentimeter mid internal jugular chain lymph nodes bilaterally, more so on the right. Subcentimeter cervical acessory chain lymph nodes are present bilaterally. No pathologically enlarged lymph nodes are seen. No supraclavicular adenopathy is indentified. The salivary glands are unremarkable.
Impression:
There are small subcentimerter lymph nodes in the jugular chain and posterior cervical space of the mid to lower check, but none are pathologically englarged. Give their number, CT follow-up could be considered in six months to confirm stability.
I think this is SUPER GREAT NEWS...omg omg omg:D |

Congratulations Eric!
You know, somebody really ought to go back over the past year, find all of the people who came here worried that they might have lymphoma and eventually told us the results of their search, and compiled the information in a single post. I think it would be a powerful and enlightening demonstration of how many different explanations there are for various symptoms besides lymphoma.
Not that I'm volunteering to do that, I just think it's a good idea. _________________ Age 37 (36 at diagnosis)

ChemoMan,
I know that, and you know that. But a single post where you can read a summary of every person's lymphoma concern being shot down would be awesome, and a much stronger comfort to the concerned than simply stating that fact.
If no one else does it then maybe I'll try, but my wife complains that I spend too much time on the computer already. _________________ Age 37 (36 at diagnosis)

Hi Joepet
Gone back to Flying tunas post and I got 30 posts of concerns about nodes with no returns, 1 return with another cancer ( preexisting) and 1 return with lupus. A number of the no returns had negative results but most just never returned.
It struck me while doing this that some people may actually get a positive and not come back to the forum, so how valuable would this be?

Well, the information is only valuable if it is the truth. We can determine what it means once we have it. _________________ Age 37 (36 at diagnosis)

Hi all
Going back to December 2007 I found that 73 people had posted worried about enlarged nodes and not one of them returned with a positive for Lymphoma.
Only 1 person who was worried had a positive for Lymphoma!
Just goes to show that Lymphoma is rarely the cause for enlarged nodes.
