stage IV adenocarcinoma of the stomach

with enlarged lymph nodes (throughout most of them)...5cm mass in stomach....unoperable.

that's what my cousin has been diagnosed with. complicating things further is a stroke that has affected her memory and speech abilities- basically shes' not entirely there- or at least can't vocalize it.

the attending/primary oncologist is doing chemo- not sure of which drugs, but right now shes getting a taxotere infusion....and gave her a 50/50 chance of reacting well to the medicine. a secondary surgiacal oncologist specializing in liver cancer but with experience in stomach gave a much graver outlook- due to the fact that it's singlet ring cancer, and how far it's already spread- he thinks that the chemo won't really work- and gave her 3 months to live. he did suggest ts-1 chemo (a new one from japan?) as a potential chemo drug that will a)minimize side effects b)work well...

guess i wanted to see what kind of drugs people are being given, and how well it's working...and also to get an idea as to how to deal with tthis cancer.

obviously there's a balance between life and comfort- the problem is she's not lucid/aware fully....so we can't basically ask her to make a decision....

so how else do we deal with this=/

as an update, the four drugs are

taxotere
mannitol
cisplatin
fluorouracil
