Could someone help me understand my father's biopsy result because i don't know what it says. I hope my translation is good because i'm not english.
It says like this:
I histopathological frozen exam:
Microscopic- metastasis of a squamo keratizing carcinoma
II Parafin exam:
1.Macroscopical
Small tisulary fragments totalising 0.4/0.4/0.4 cm
2.Histopathological diagnosis- squamocellular carcinoma
Does it mean it has skin cancer or what?
His treament consists of radiotherapy in the neck area(he has a swallen ganglion) and in the back region (lung area?), and chemotherapy with Sinplatin (Cisplatinum).
Can someone please tell me what stage this cancer is and if it's treatable?
Thank you

Hi mmars, I am very sorry about your father's cancer. I can clarify some of this biopsy report for you:

  1. histopathological frozen exam, aka "histological frozen section exam" is one of the ways the pathologist prepares the sample for examination
  2. Microscopic - metastasis of a squamo keratizing carcinoma, aka Microscopic - Metastasis squamous keratinizing cancer.

    • Metastasis means that the sample he/she received is not the primary cancer.
    • Squamous cells are skin cells from the top surface
    • Keratinizing means the the cells are taking up more keratin than normal cell. I believe this is a trait of melanomas but am not sure that melanomas are the only cancer cells that take up keratin.
    • Carcinoma means that it is a cancer

  3. Parafin exam is just another way to prepare a sample.
  4. Macroscopical is what can be said based on a visual inspection of the sample.
  5. Small tisulary fragment totalising 0.4/0.4/0.4cm aka Small tissue fragment totaling 0.4/0.4/0.4cm -- a relatively small tumor
  6. Histopatholocal diagnosis - squamocellular carcinoma means a cancer formed by squamous cells. Although the report does not say specifically what it is, it is probably a spread of a primary skin cancer.
  7. Lung area?: Maybe. Skin cancers often metastasize to the lungs.
  8. Cisplatin is a well know chemotherapy agent.

I am not familiar with how skin cancer are staged so I cannot help you much there. I can tell you that since it have spread already, it must be a high grade.

I hope that I have been of some help. I did go ahead and copied your post to the Melanoma and Skin cancer forum. You will get more help there.

You and your father are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for your help.
I didn't know for sure that it was skin cancer because his first simptoms were swallen ganglions in the neck and armpit.
Now he's feeling better and has started to eat more because before when he was doing both radiotherapy and chemo he couldn't eat because his throat was hurting.
What do you think is it possible to stop the growth of the tumor or even heal?
besides the normal treatment we started an alternative treatment with kamboocha tea and a combination of honey and aloe leafs and next week I want to buy another combination of honey polen and apilarnil(an active biological apiarian product obtained by extracting drone larvae combs).
Does any one know any other methods of treatment?

Usually, skin cancers are an ongoing fight. He might have some relatively long periods without cancer, but it will most likely return in the future.

I have no other suggestions for him to try. I sounds to me like every thing that can be done is being done.

Have they found the primary skin cancer yet?

I don't think so because the only "lump" is in the neck are at the ganglion where he does radiotherapy and I think the primary cancer is at the lungs because the other spot is in the back in the lung region.

Then I believe the diagnosis will be "metastatic skin cancer with occult primary"... that is until a primary shows itself.
